Passively Tunable Terahertz Filters Using Liquid Crystal Cells Coated with Metamaterials

Liquid crystal (LC) cells that are coated with metamaterials fabricated in this work. The LC directors the aligned by rubbed polyimide layers, and make angles θ of 0°, 45°, 90° respect to gaps split-ring resonators (SRRs) metamaterials. Experimental results display resonance frequencies these increase an θ, have a maximum frequency shifting region 18 GHz. Simulated reveal arises from birefringence LC, has 0.15 terahertz region. shifted rubbing directions so passively tunable filters. filters exhibit promising applications on communication, sensing, imaging.
